Product review: Marabu easy-marble.

janecameronI finally decided to try out my "Marabu easy-marble" set tonight.
Equipment, instructions and notes under here:
Equipment:
* 1 set of "Marabu easy-marble" (8 little pots of paint - red, yellow, green, blue, black, white)
* 1 dish slightly bigger than the paper you want to marble
* some tap water
* disposable sticks (e.g. wooden cocktail sticks, kebab sticks) for swirling the paint
* somewhere to put the finished pieces
* pieces of paper for "clearing" the spare paint off the surface of the water
* pieces of paper or thin card to do marbling on
* WHITE SPIRIT - Do not start without this!
Having read the instructions, I discovered in the small print that the marbling paint is NOT washable, so don't use this on silk unless you are really sure you will not want to wash it.
Process:
* Pour some tap water into your tray - it's a good idea to put the tray on a bigger tray or a wipeable table in case of spillage.
* drip a few drops of paint on the surface of the water
* add some more in different colours
* swirl about with the stick
* lay paper / card on surface of water, ensuring no air trapped under it
* use second piece of paper to mop up the spare paint otherwise it sticks itself to the "good" bit as a second layer when you lift it
* lift the card, place face up to dry.
Useful notes:
* The paint is somewhat like gloss paint
* Use in a well ventilated area
* Fairy liquid will not work to get this off your hands. White spirit works perfectly.
* Leave to dry overnight before making up into cards. You may also want to press them flat.
Conclusions:
* A wonderful and very simple introduction to marbling as you can use normal water
* Great for making marbled card / paper
* I think it would be a waste of silk to use this product on it
* Forms a hard "skin" on the surface of the water quite fast - probably best for fairly small pieces
